  • About us

    MAIDS Governance

MAIDS is governed by a Board of Directors made up of dedicated volunteers. If you like to learn more about our association, please feel free to contact us at 28340683.

    Our History

In 1986,a new era was dawning for the people with developmental challenges.New attitudes and new laws would take those with disabilities out of institutions and place them in the community, more in the mainstream. We were excited about the better lives now promised to our intellectually challenged children. We saw the new system as an opportunity and as a responsibility to create the very best lives possible for them.We continue to advance the rights and interests of people with developmental disabilities,to provide a safe and nurturing environment. From then on,it was full speed ahead for us.We learned about grants, foundations, licensing, city regulations as well as community meetings.Through the decades, the commitment of our staff and our generous supporters stays strong, keeping MAIDS the place where people with developmental challenges thrive.

Over the years,we have established many centres catering to different groups of intellectual disabilities.

1.Kai Chi Early Training Centre that serves children from birth to 3 years of age who are considered at risk for developmental delay.

2.Kai Chi School offers care settings and learning environment for children from 3 to 6 years old so they can access to opportunities and environments that promote optimal physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and spiritual development.

3.Kai Lung Centre and Kai Hong Centre offer model programs of service for students over 16 years of age with developmental challenges. Our in-depth services provide developmentally challenged adults with day programs where our centres are cheerful and students are well cared for. They feel safe and they have fun.

4.Sam Meng Chi Snack Shop provides a continuum of support to help our students to learn the necessary basic culinary skills and abilities to ultimately find and maintain employment and be fully included in the community.

    The Future

In 2021 marks AHMA's 35th year of service to those with special needs. We have weathered many a storm financially but our commitment is stronger than ever.We have been serving more numerous students in our diversified day programs.Since the beginning However, despite our success,we cannot rest on our laurels. We must continue to advocate vigorously for our students and pursue new funding to provide the best care possible for all our developmental disability students.
